South Pennines’ Walk and Ride Festival 2018

Posted: 17.08.18

Enjoy the unspoilt beauty of the moorlands to the fascinating heritage of the industrial revolution join events for families, cyclists, horse riders and walkers as part of the South Pennines Walk and Ride Festival 2018. There are over 100 events taking place between Saturday, September 8th and Sunday, September 23th.

For Roadies and Mountain Bikers alike there are many different rides to choose from; the Bronte MTB Challenge, with four routes of varying difficulties, or a more moderate cycle in Shibden Valley with the Rough Stuff Fellowship, or how about a challenging 60-mile Bolton Abbey road ride?

There are gentle pop-out well-being walks to strenuous hikes. Why not explore the West Pennine Way and receive a certificate for completing 6 circular walks with Mick Chatham or look at things from a different perspective whilst forest bathing.

There are walks that will also introduce you to the area’s rich history and culture, such as the Todmorden Open Studios Trail, a photo treasure hunt, a midnight walk or learning about Sir Jonas Moore-the founder of Greenwich Meantime. Families can learn about the Romans at Castleshaw and there’s an opportunity to take bambinos out for a sling walk. You can even meet the Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team for a practical introduction so you can enjoy being out on the hills safely.

Meet Peers Clough Packhorses in Rossendale and have a taster ride.

For disabled outdoor enthusiasts there’s the opportunity to join Experience Community on a short mountain trike ramble as part of Marsden’s Walking Weekend.

Events are taking place throughout the South Pennines from Skipton to Honley and from Saddleworth to Keighley. Events are listed in our printed pocket guide, which will be available from community hubs, tourist information centres and other outlets across the region this summer.
