South Pennines 'Walk & Ride' Festival 2008
This year’s Walk & Ride Festival builds upon last year’s successful Heritage Festival which attracted record numbers and encouraged people to get out and enjoy the South Pennines whilst leaving their car at home.
The programme for this year is equally diverse, featuring something for everyone – short, medium and long walks, various cycle rides from easy to challenging (including 47 miles around the Mary Townley Loop !). There are also several interpretive walks looking at architecture and cultural heritage and themed events, focusing on special aspects of South Pennines life and landscape – social and industrial history, transport, literature and the environment.
Other than the navigation course on the festival’s opening and the orienteering course on September 28, all walks and events are free of charge; places on some are limited and should be booked in advance – details appear with the individual events. A few involve return journeys on buses or trains, for which you will need your fare. Otherwise just turn up and join the walk or event – we look forward to meeting you. Enjoy !
