Minimum requirements of the role

Applicants must be 18yrs+ and be undertaking, or hold a relevant college or university qualification, or have a good knowledge of event organisation and promotion. Effective communication skills, including social media and the enthusiasm to work in the field of promoting outdoor recreation are essential for all candidates.

Purpose

The South Pennines Walk & Ride Festival co-ordinator intern will support members of the Pennine Prospects core team and individual event leaders to plan and manage the South Pennines Walk & Ride Festival 2017. Key roles and responsibilities

1. To work with the leaders of the walking, cycling and riding events that make up the Festival to help them to register details on the Walk & Ride Festival website and to ensure the Festival website contains comprehensive details of each event, the main portal for information about the Festival.
2. To encourage new leaders to develop events which broaden the geographical reach and scope of the Festival programme.
3. To work with Pennine Prospects staff and Company Members, partner organisations and neighbouring outdoor festivals to promote the Festival through print, on-line and social media and to encourage participation.
4. To promote the Festival and the outdoor recreation opportunities within the South Pennines.
5. To collect information from event leaders to enable Pennine Prospects to gather statistical data about the Festival and to assess the impact and value of the South Pennines Walk & Ride Festival 2017.
6. To work with event leaders to ensure that health & safety guidelines are followed and that all post-event Festival paperwork is collected.

What Pennine Prospects can provide

Pennine Prospects is the rural regeneration company working to promote the sustainable development of the South Pennines, the distinctive area of uplands between the conurbations of West Yorkshire, Greater Manchester and Lancashire.

The long distance routes that cross the landscape, along with the many footpaths, bridleways and cycle routes of the area provide a unique resource for the local community and visitors to the area. The outdoor recreation opportunities are a central part of the defining characteristics of the South Pennines.

Pennine Prospects will cover all agreed out-of-pocket expenditure associated with the post on production of receipts and the necessary training and induction.

The role offers the opportunity to work with partner organisations in the private, public and voluntary sectors in the South Pennines and beyond.
