The Rochdale Canal Connections Project
The Canal Connections project aims to bring the history of the Rochdale Canal to life with a number of interpretation features. As a first phase of this project we are putting installations in at Lock 39, Summit Pound, Todmorden and Hebden Bridge.
Funding is being sought to extend the scheme to other parts of the Canal, in addition to completing towpath improvements wherever possible on priority stretches.
The funding is being made available through the South Pennines LEADER programme (Rural Development Programme for England), which is jointly funded by Defra and the European Union, and managed by Pennine Prospects.
The project is managed by Pennine Prospects in partnership with The Waterways Trust, Upper Calder Valley Renaissance, Rochdale Council, Calderdale Council and British Waterways.
The installations have been designed by Imagemakers and have been fabricated and installed by Hargreaves foundry and IS group.
The Local Action Group visit the first installation at Lock 39, Summit
If you have any comments about the project, want to know more about the future of the project or wish to get involved in looking after this Canal, please contact us.
