Pennine Prospects invests resources from its Company Members and external funding bodies in projects and programmes that provide benefit across the South Pennines.
Recent achievements for Pennine Prospects include:
A resilient local economy
Completion of £4.5M South Pennines LEADER programme 2008-2013 and secured transition funding (£40K) to develop a new LEADER programme 2015-2020.
The South Pennines LEADER programme supported over 900 businesses and a number of strategic projects that were led by Pennine Prospects including:
• The Rochdale Canal Connections project which went on to win the Art & Interpretation category at the 2014 Living Waterways Awards organised by the Canal & River Trust.
• The South Pennines local distinctiveness project which engaged businesses in the visitor economy and encouraged visitors to unearth the unique characteristics of the area and to stay longer in the South Pennines.
A landscape for the future
Completion of £3M Heritage Lottery Fund Watershed Landscape Project in December 2013 which focused on the unique uplands of the South Pennines.
The project was nominated as the UK entry for Council of Europe Landscape Award 2013 and won the Communications & Presentations Category at the Landscape Institute Awards in 2014.
Development of South Pennines Local Nature Partnership including the production of South Pennines vision and co-ordination of the South Pennines Moorwatch & Fire Operations Group.
A space for everyone
Animation of Tour de France route through £175K Fields of Vision land art project which was part of the Yorkshire Festival 2014.
Organised South Pennines Walk & Ride Festival: 140 events in 2014.
These projects helped the Company to secure regular coverage in local, regional and national media.
An annual conference, the South Pennines: the green roots of our prosperity was held in October 2014 and attracted over 100 delegates.
